Perceived Impact of Modern-Day Inflation on the Budget Consumption and Decisions of Senior High School Learners

Nflation has affected numerous aspects of living globally, and this consistent drop in purchasing power has been attributed to the rise of overall prices of goods, leading to greater challenges in global living standards. There have been numerous studies indicating the impact of inflation amongst many stakeholders, but in this study, the objective is to assess whether it also affected the learners of a selected institution in the same way. Hence, a descriptive-correlational design was utilized to describe and correlate the levels of perceived assessment on modern-day inflation and the perceived changes in the budget consumption and decisions of Senior High School learners in the period of 2022. A structured Likert scale survey questionnaire adopted from the study of Avila & Gatpolintan (2019) was distributed to a sample of 282 respondents using simple random sampling. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for the first two objectives and Pearson r correlation for the third. The study revealed a very high level of agreement in the price increase brought by their perceptions toward modern-day inflation, a very high level of agreement on their perceived changes toward expenditures, and a high level for their preferences and quantity of consumption. The study also noted a moderate positive correlation (p<0.05) between the two variables, indicating that the learners' budgeting behaviors are influenced by their assessment of rising prices and that their perceptions have also been influenced by how they chose and quantified their necessities, respectively.

Academic Challenges and Coping Mechanisms Among Senior High School Students with Overseas Filipino Worker Parents

Students with Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) parents face a wide array of challenges that affect their well-being. The consequences of parent's absence directly affect their child's psychological state which can result to poor academic performance.  This study aimed to determine the academic challenges and coping mechanisms of the Senior High School students with Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) parents through analysis of their lived experience. This study employed a phenomenological research design. In this study a purposive sampling technique was employed to select the six (6) respondents with OFW parents in Senior High School. These students were selected using the following criteria: (1) a senior high school student at Tairan National High School; (2) whose mother is working abroad; and (3) willingness of the respondents to participate in the study. The data collected from the interview were analyzed using thematic analysis. Three (3) subthemes emerged in the senior high school students' academic challenges: (1) school-related problem; (2) lack of parent's attention and guidance; and (3) communication. On the other hand, the coping mechanisms of the students include (1) reciprocating parent's efforts; (2) understanding the parents' reasons for working abroad; (3) building a circle of friends and family support system. Results showed that the parents' absence affects the academic performances of the students. However, the students displayed strong commitment to do well in school to reciprocate parents' sacrifices. Thus, this phenomenological study establishes the baseline in developing programs and support system to the students with OFW parents.

Predictors of Financial Management Behavior of Public Secondary School Teachers in A Municipality of Davao De Oro

Poor financial management, which results in financial problems, affects one's productivity in the workplace; thus, an individual cannot perform competently once preoccupied with financial distress. This study aimed to investigate whether financial knowledge, financial attitude, and locus of control significantly predict the financial management behavior of the public secondary school teachers in a municipality of Davao de Oro, Philippines. The researcher used the descriptive-correlational research design. The respondents were 192 purposively chosen secondary school teachers in the East and West districts in the municipality of Davao de Oro for the school year 2021-2022. Sets of adapted survey questionnaires were used in this study. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as Pearson's r and regression analysis. Findings reveal that financial knowledge was evident, financial attitude and financial management behavior were favorable, while the locus of control was manifested. Moreover, financial knowledge, financial attitude, and locus of control were significantly correlated with financial management behavior. However, only financial knowledge and locus of control could significantly predict financial management behavior in its individual capacity. Thirty-five percent of the variation in financial management behavior could be attributed to the combined influence of these factors.
